Lost It All (Revisited)

Who chances to be closer to you.
When you have become,
So stubbornly distant?
Determined to have it your way.
I understand.
Yet admit unable to completely comprehend.

Who comes to call when you have fallen,
Down?
Found from the gutter of your choosing.
This understood if I could makes no sense.
I can think of no one other,
Who loves you as I do.
And you have known who knows you best.
After I have passed,
Your challenges to test me.

Although...
There in you eyes it is clear to me.
Is a showing of disbelief.

You will change one day, my dear.
I can think of no one other who suffers more.
From a blame you claim,
Not yours to endure.
But mine allowed to inflict as if,
I am in need...
To feel your pain, sorrow and anguish.

Too long I have wanted us to trust each other.
Grow away from this maddening game.
Played at the dismay of fools.
Aimed to sow and reap,
A harvesting of deceiving tricks.
And...
Their own to implement.
I don't 'get' this adventure.
To explore the meaning of it.
Leaving both of us sick and tired,
Of weeping from the craze permitted.
Allowing this for us to exist.
For what reason?
And who is left to benefit from this...
Effective yet purposelessness.

I am here for you to remember,
That balance we knew and together shared.
I have returned to come back from isolation.
Attacking my choice that taught me lessons.
Unending.

Even when you have chilled to frost,
An attempted loss of feelings for me.
Who rushes to comfort the agony of your fall?
To ease the pain of this; your journey.

I am not envious.
Who is it that is here?
Stripped and bared of detected arrogance.
Appearing to convince you to stand tall?
In these times you feel,
You have lost it all!

What is it that makes you,
Accept to believe...
Such a thought to think.
That I am deserving to be treated,
Disrespectfully.
By your wish to seek defeat successfully.

What makes you believe to accept,
Your choice to lose it all is not mine as well?
This is not your hell or mine to live it!

About this poem

I first began writing this poem in 2003. Twenty years ago. It appeared in the year 2004 as a published compilation by The International Library of poetry. In their book entitled, Invoking the Muse. Today, in the year 2023, the experiences seem too familiar to ignore. A little updating to the original 'Lost It All' has been added. However, the overall essence of the poem stays unchanged to remain and keep the same intention. Twenty years later!
