A Few Smiles More

Manuel Santos 1973 (Houston)

You thought it was easy to breathe inside a self emitting star.
You did not realize, after so many self inflicted years, you would have drifted so far.

I can not feel the old notion of knowing how strong I once was.
For decades now, I've given all the best parts of me away just because.

We used to be so brilliant among the high profile affiliates of our own demise.
I can barely hear the howling wind of yesterday smother our defiant cries.

You sliced open the idea of one day regrouping our formidable youth.
You slowly tore down those intricate walls of cascading truth.

Somehow I still embrace the old ways and all those triumphant years
we tightly clung to impenetrable care.
Escaping words and slippery nerves can not stop me from being so raveningly rare.

I pillage through the hour of misspoken power and unearthed wealth.
I disregard time and induce scarce rhymes to my sleepy health.

Maroon heart, although blind, can still deliver one last death blow.
Strange you never realized how captivating you have always stood.
If I could super impose LOVE I most definitely would.

About this poem

This poem is about an old friend of mine who in years past was a very good influence in my life but over time has chosen a different patch. We are still very good friends.
