WAIT NOT FOR THE PLAGUE
MME ANNETTE NALOVA EKEMA 1970 (BOTA -VICTORIA)
WAIT NOT FOR THE PLAGUE, TO BE HAILED
I hail you, woman for you are a leader;
I hail you; care giver, comforter and helper;
Most hit, in times of war, yet never falter;
Most hit, in times of plagues, yet a front-liner;
Do not relent; feed the sheep, do not waiver.
The master looks up to you;
The sheep has confidence in you;
Will you fail them as the hail, will you?
What are the sheep being fed with, by you?
Counterfeit, White wash or milk-like food?
You were considered least intelligent, like the turkey;
Good for indoor chores; an evil necessity;
And like the giant panda, a hidden threat;
Others say you are the mother of humanity;
Who do you say you are woman?
Like Jeanne D’Arc, you paved the way in the wars;
You are the front liner, in care giving in COVID 19;
You are hailed.
You have proven your worth,
But, how worthy is your worth?
Remember, you toil twain for one;
Shall you sacrifice the martyrs maul?
Shall you sacrifice posterity and then gnaw;
You tread on delicate ground now;
Crush not the eggs woman with the paw;
How dare you plague for power.
You have toiled into Potiphar’s house ,
But woman; Will you forgo the Promised Land?
Between two plagues, how far do you go woman?
Will you wait for the next plague to be hailed, front-liner?
Oh heroine of doom, how can you be hailed, more in plagues?
Who did you plague to get power?
Plaguing for power takes you two generations back;
Be not contented with the hailing of the plagues.
Woman! How did you get there?
Your children are half gone, so, who will you lead?
How long shall you shoulder the plagues of the world?
Pour out your soul, tear the veil;
Pull down the glass ceiling, pave the way;
Pat the waters, lead the way;
You are the light of the world;
You are the salt of the earth;
Without you we are nothing;
To whom shall we turn to, woman?
Bother you not that we perish?
The boat is sinking; woman!
What do you have in your hand woman?
Stretch forth thy hand! Woman of faith;
Take your place! Appear let plagues disappear;
Appear! Wait not for the wars, the plagues;
Appear! Strive, for plagues to rise no more;
Arise! Lead the way, arise woman of substance;
Wait not for the plagues, to be hailed;
Be wise, I hail you woman.

About this poem
In relation to COVID 19, the wars and other man made problems experienced in the world today, the poet will like to know what the world will look like if the woman has a bigger role to play than the one she has today, in decision making spheres that affect the world at large.
