Venus

she glows against a satin sky,
the first and brightest star.
against the dusk, a burning scar,
a spot of glory scorches my eyes.
a goddess bathed in silken light,
      fantasy etched into the dark,
a furious and fearsome spark
that seems to gather all my sighs.

first to arrive and last to leave,
the sky is her eternal home.
she tints the coloured air I breathe,
      alive in hazy twilight smoke.
I'm lost in planetary dreams,
and Venus sinks into my bones.
