Tug A War

Shaquante Swain 1993 (Greensboro)

my brain and heart are doing tug a war
my heart wants to give you all the love i have, everything that you deserve like a huge present
but my mind is putting up a wall like a border telling me its not worth it

why is it that loving you is so scary
i don't know if its the thought of love
or the thought of giving you all the power to tear me apart
I want to love you, i really do
i want to hug you, hold you
let you know i'm yours and only yours
 in any way i can
 but i'm afraid
its like i'm walking into mist
barely being able to see my hands in front if my face

i'm not the type of person to just give my heart to someone
but i find myself passing my heart to you without a second guess like a smile
but what if you break it or i beak yours
 i'm not ready for that

I look at you
All the little pieces of you
like scattered stars
each one beautiful individually
but all together they make a gorgeous galaxy which I want to travel to everyday

you are who i want to be with
its like my heart is on fishing hook and your reeling it in
but what if you don't want that

my mind says to pull back and not take the risk but my heart has already fallen
so i think i'm just going to let it
