I wish I were a Rabbit

I wish I were a rabbit,
chomping slowly on some grass.

Without the deepest worries
of mankind and all its faults.

A peaceful life I’d lead,
being the freest of the free.

Only wanting for sweet fruits and leaves.

But even mankind comes for the rabbits,
as they try to live and breathe.

They’re hunt and shot
and murdered when they always flee.

But yet their spirit never quavers,
they run and run all day

escaping all that comes their way.

I wish I were a rabbit
maybe life would then be simpler.

If it were not for society’s rigid structures,
pointless rituals and beliefs.

Maybe then I’d finally be,
the free spirit God intended of me.

I wish I were a rabbit,
for then, I’d be exempt

And the world would be just as it was first seen.
