Hey, Those Are MY Words!

I do not like when I happen to see
the same words appearing and
evidenced in my contemporaries'
works of intelligence –seemingly
symmetrical to mine.
There is this sense
of 'pirating of meanings' or, that
that which I opine
will get watered down- flat
in its leanings,
if it's not genuine.

At the least, I'm left conflicted.
Obviously I have no claim on
a shared linguist's lexicon
and I realize that what's depicted
is simply overlapping synchronicity
-not an infringement on my authenticity.
So it should be seen as something keen.
But it does so irk me (this peculiar bent)
when I find someone has tactfully
used a specific term exactly,
or just about how I had meant.

Perhaps it's a lack of conviction
as it bears on language acquisition.
I'm at a loss to find my compass
–when I've perceived a thought transposed
with rapier wit; a mind eviction!
Coincidence? –who knows?
In reality we are just brewing ideas congruently
and while I may struggle to fluently reconcile
what's been put to page,
there are no restrictions so -
our dictions should engage in freestyle.

Jeffrey Powell

A bit of an introvert, Jeffrey enjoys using words and poetry as an outlet for expressing his thoughts and feelings. Jeffrey lives with his fraternal twin whom he enjoys sharing a laugh with at the opportune time. more…
