Too Different

Two different people walk along the same path
One asks,
Do you see that?
The other looking back,
Thinking it had already past, asks,
What?
That!
What!?
The bobcat!
What!? Where!?
There! Up ahead
The other turns back around
But the cat vanishes without a sound
Disappearing into the woods
And now, nowhere to be found

They continue along the path
They hold the other’s hand
One of them asks,
When you walk, do you look up ahead
or down at the ground?
The other collects their thoughts and carefully responds
I watch my steps
So you look at the ground?
No, that’s not what I meant
You look up ahead?
I look up ahead and at the ground
I look up above and all around
I try to see all the sights and hear all the sounds
But I know there is always more to be found
So I go flipping logs in search of frogs
As I meander, I look out for the salamander
Who wandered into the road along with the toad
Who would not have been found
Had I not looked up ahead, and down at the ground

Wow, that was poetic, that was profound
There are so many options, so many choices, so many possibilities

Yes, the world is chaotic, not dichotic

They continue in silence

The forest resounds
