Broken

The days are short and nights are long
I didn't think I was that strong
It was the hardest thing I had to do
To leave the person I love and thought I knew

I stood by your side for years
Most of it brought me tears
Promised me you were going to change
So I gave you my heart in exchange

Broke my heart time and time again
I stayed by your side through thick and thin
While picking up the pieces scattered on the floor
Wishing I could've just closed that door

I hear your voice in my head
About all the promises you said
I close my eyes and I see your face
Yet again my heart starts to race

Open my eyes and it slows down
As I'm on my knees on the ground
Thanking the Lord for the blessing
For he is the reason I'm still dancing

About this poem

You put your heart on the line and let your walls down only to build them right back up
