Peace at Last

Elisa Eason 2011 (California)

Droplets break open on the ground
I tilt my head enjoying the sound
The birds are silent up in the leaves
I am too up in the eaves
Outside is cold, yet not bitter
The bunnies hide in the ground
The all of the bears are all sleeping
They dare not make a sound
The only thing that moves, save the water dropping down
Are my fingers turning pages
Without making a sound
Though the rain is nice
My book takes me away
To a land of dragons and forests
With villains in the way
My tale contains much magic
This all of us know
But so does the rain upon the house
Soaking my abode
I am safe within
Clutching my book close
Whilst the rain waters the garden
The tales warm up my home

I was born in Pakistan and lived there till I was about 8. Then we had to move to America. In Pakistan there is a season called “Monsoon Season” this is my favorite time of year. All this rain reminded me of Pakistan so I decided to write about it. I hope the poem was ok! more…
