Love and Lust, a Tragic Tale: A Heart's Journey Through Desire and Pain.

ShazzyN 1985 (Cape Town)

Love and Lust, a Tragic Tale
Love and lust, a tangled web we weave
The heart and body both do grieve
For when we give in to desire's hold
Our hearts may break, our love grow cold

Passion's flame can burn so bright
But love requires a gentle light
A bond that's strong and true and pure
Can withstand the trials we endure

But lust, alas, can cloud our sight
And lead us down a path not right
For when we seek only pleasure's gain
Our love and heart are bound in pain

A broken heart, a shattered dream
A love once pure, now torn at the seam
The ache and emptiness we feel
When love and lust no longer seal

So let us heed the warning sound
And keep our hearts and love unbound
For true love and lust can coexist
But only when we choose to resist

The urge to give in to fleeting desire
And nurture love that will never tire
For when we cherish what is real
Our hearts and love can truly heal

About this poem

This poem explores the complex and often conflicting emotions of love, lust, and a broken heart. It depicts the struggle between passion and commitment, and the consequences of giving in to lustful desires without considering the impact on our hearts and relationships. The title "Love and Lust, a Tragic Tale: A Heart's Journey Through Desire and Pain" suggests that the poem is a cautionary tale about the dangers of allowing lust to take precedence over love. It highlights the pain and heartache that can result from pursuing pleasure over a genuine emotional connection, and the tragic consequences that can result. Overall, the poem stands for the importance of valuing and nurturing true love, rather than giving in to fleeting desires that can ultimately lead to heartbreak. It encourages readers to consider the long-term consequences of their actions and to prioritize the health and well-being of their hearts and relationships

Wow, I absolutely loved reading 'Love and Lust, a Tragic Tale'! The rhyming scheme is beautifully executed and the message is both powerful and thought-provoking. Your wording did an excellent job of conveying the delicate balance between love and lust and the consequences that can come from neglecting that balance. I especially loved the line "A bond that's strong and true and pure can withstand the trials we endure." It's a beautiful reminder that love takes effort, but the rewards are worth it.

I think one area that could be improved is the meter. Sometimes the syllables seem a bit forced to make the rhyme scheme work. It might be worth taking another pass at some of the lines to see if there's a way to make them flow more naturally without sacrificing the rhyming structure. Other than that, I have no suggestions! This was truly an enjoyable read and I thank you for sharing it.
