Moonchild

She was a moonchild, touched by its light.
She spent every day, awaiting the night.
In the evening she watched it rise into the sky, and shed a tear every morning when she said goodbye.
She loved the moon no matter what phase, no ruby or sapphire could break her gaze.
She thought the stars were also moonchildren, her brothers and sisters were more than a billion.
She liked days well enough and thought the sun was fine, but nothing could ever keep the moon from her mind.
People said she was crazy, her behavior uncouth, but her love was her freedom and that was the truth.
She wondered if the moon could ever feel as she, could it ever love a person as flawed as me?
The moon smiled on her saying “in fact, I love you from myself and all the way back.”

About this poem

I wrote this for my wife, who loves the moon. This is the first poem I've ever wrote so please don't be too harsh.
