Nutcracker

Black stars were shot out of the night sky with visceral fury
Though they may never be seen through standard eyes
The world at large serves to aid in their brutalization
Graves of countless futures pollute the hallowed grounds

I live this shadowed life knowing my terrible passion may never be sewn
The flowing robe told the stories of man and death with glyphs unreadable
But I knew those witnessed to the truth could appreciate the page
And in blinding light of insanity, there was a pale fire of faith

The dew drop can exalt us if only we listened to his song
But the world's ears were pained and truth became damnation
Upon their velvet chairs they change what we were
And it was if thou never tasted the infinite grace

Lies permeate and echo across the vessel's tongue
Masked falsities which cast infinite hellfire upon the nutcracker
And it danced and danced until we became the servants of Dionysus
Maybe one day we shall rip the chocolate crown

Until then, I see only violation

About this poem

One of three poems I wrote in 2022 that revolve around the an undead man witnessing the totality of all that lives and dies. This one in particular deals with his awakening to the mundanity of human nature.

I like writing poems, among other things. Don't expect proper structure, and don't expect me to know what a heptameter is. Poems are for putting thoughts into the physical world. more…
