Big Orange Moon

Patrick Joslin 1968 (Menominee, MI.)

There you are,
Dancing in the night blue;
So big and round,
With the orange hue.
With the lake,
As your dance floor;
Covered in white lace.
You dance for all to see,
That puts a smile on our face.

About this poem

My niece has been battling cancer for many years, this past week hospice was called in. She has had a page on Facebook messenger to keep family and friends in the loop on the progress of her treatment over the years. One of her friends posted a photo of The big Orange moon last night on her page. I had made a comment of how beautiful it was over the bay where I live. My eldest sister private messaged me this morning and said my words I used to describe the moon seemed like it would be a good poem, so I penned this poem to her this morning at 4:11a. m.
