tired letter to the universe

you contain all of us. our life-force, everything.
that is who you are. you are made out of us
we give you meaning. vain, i know. is it true though?
who are you? because a young child's universe is so, so different than one through so-called grown-up eyes. maybe we lose our joy as we get older.  maybe we all exist in your little ant-farm. your pocket of space with funny little creatures. how little we must mean to you.

but how much we mean to each other. joy may be lost, but love remains. two friends in a time of need. a mother tending to her daughter. the average life does not exist. everyone is a hero only because of those around them. in love and shared care. we rely on each other. we combat your storms. yes, we destroy you. but we are not unkind - we have simply forgotten how to love you.

we are you. you cannot deny us. it is the presence of another heart, another soul, that gives us meaning. religion makes us selfish. are you a god? are we all gods? masters of the bacteria inside our bodies. fighting for our survival. is that not a universe too? who are you, then?

you are the heartbeat of a million humans. children of the earth. we destroy. but we create. we are enough in our own right. you cannot stifle our dreams, we have tried that already. do you love us? are we you? do you live inside all of us? a little bit of your meaning and all of ours, rests inside each of our souls. you live in our heartbeat.

we are the universe. you cannot destroy yourself. we give you meaning.

you cannot change us.
