I am the Forest

Why would you want to own the forest
when you can simply BE the forest;
become the forest.
I’ve often times become a pine cone,
or a moss-covered branch.
I have been a leaf’s shadow
and the bird gliding low; silent
through the branches.

Why own a field
when you can simply BE the field;
become the field.
Feel the wind wash over your grasses
in waves,
know that its caress
is for the grasses, yes,
but also for you.

You can simply be a house;
become the house.
Feel the creaks in your joints with passing years,
know the sweet smell of rot,
know beyond words
that inside you,
things are changing.

Fools, fools
they will always try
to own the forest.
But I?

I will always be the forest.
