Harbouring Doubt

Sat on the sofa arm,
Charmed by the dark of the garden,
Letting my mind wander my thoughts unguarded
In that moment, more than I could feel, my doubt came home
From a long holiday away
Around the corner and over the hill
And we sat a while talking
And they sat next to the love in my life
Dulling the flame that burned so bright
Telling me to push it down deep
To bury it and let someone dig it up when I let them in
A treasure no one wants to find
One that no one wants to have
A treasure that kept me harbouring doubts.

About this poem

When I wrote this I was beginning to lean back into some negative behaviours; stress eating etc. And it was about how alone I felt despite knowing that I wasn't alone at all.
