My sister

Sister
By: Patricija Facini

Younger us would fight like cats and dogs.
Our favorite activity was early morning beach jogs.
When you were a baby, I threw you down the stairs.
I am sorry if that gives you nightmares.
I didn’t want to share attention with you.
But my heart would melt when you were feeling blue.
Our relationship is like rollercoaster ride, we are used to it.
One day when we tell our kids we will laugh by fire pit.
The day I threw scissors at the wall, you will never let me forget.
These days however we rock different shades of brunette.
We may bicker till the end of time; I know when push comes to shove you got my back.
We will always have each other if we are under attack.
People may say we fight too much.
Unlike some of our family members, at least we know we will never lose touch.
No amount of money or land will separate us.
I never have to worry that in court or real life you will throw me under the bus.
Remember the days I would drag you to pick up my pay checks in monsoon.
I know you would have rather drank prune juice.
You always went along my wild ideas.
I taught you a thing or two, like how you call them Spanish way tortillas.
You couldn’t wait to quote Mean Girls when you got your first car.
For your driving skills you earned a gold star.
These days I sleep in while you go to the gym before the sunrise.
I tease you for being pintsize.
I still can’t believe we are both cat moms, who would have predicted?
In our old apartment due to them we would have gotten evicted.
We went through so much together, endless smiles and tears.
You always try to calm my fears.
You know better not to wake me up when I am sleeping, I can be worse than a tiger.
Very soon we will have to eat a lot of fiber.
You gottta have your coffee to function.
You came to my rescue when I almost experienced abduction.
I couldn’t ask for a better sister than you.
Maybe in the future you dream will come true of owning a kangaroo.
