Mama

He lifted his hand
gave her a slap
as he pounced on her
giving the worst
And I watched

He shouted at her
calling her all sorts of names
in public and alone
no respect towards her
and I watched

He came home late
it kept happening
she had a talk with him
that ended up the confession
he was cheating and won't stop.

no sweet words nor
the love and affection
all these kept repeating
over and over again
And I watched

And she kept mute
crying inside and out
silently, not trying to react
but to be the perfect submissive wife
it is okay for him to do that
he is the man.
And I watched.

So little I was,
couldn't understand none
but learn to follow
it is right
what dad did to beat , insult and cheat on her.
Mama showed me
is okay to keep all in

Women are supposed to
 just listen not talk
after all, that's what Mom did
stayed with him after all this years
and I watched

As I grew , I became her
I listen but never question
as my choices was never mine
but was on others

Mama never  showed and told me
it was wrong to be silence
is wrong not to speak for yourself
it is wrong to be abused
and not say a thing.

Mama never said
I had the power to be myself and become whom i want.
that I deserve love and affection
I just watched and learned
and I became her

And this is also me
telling my daughter to watch
too and learn .
And it continues...

About this poem

This poem talks about the abuse some women go through which they term it as normal because they are women and they are made for that. They turn in into reality, they watch, suffer and not question every abuse they go through but rather they keep quiet and make their daughters go through the same abuse. To me is never normal to keep that spin going, mothers has the power to shape their daughters not to expect and feel less but for them to expect the best attach to their worth. My poem , Mama is to every mother , to every woman to know they are the sole ownership of their life and they have the ability to do what they pleases and to seek for the best for themselves and their daughters, they should speak for themselves and break the chains that keep women from being abused all over and again, like generational curse. Daughters learn from their Mothers and they also teach their daughters what they learnt.
