If You So Choose
She reads books not to escape her life but
rather, to experience the places she’s
yet to travel.
To see these places in her mind, and color in the once empty spaces.
Vividly
she is able to see the world whenever she chooses, as if she saw it with her own eyes
If only you too, could experience the places she’s allowed herself to travel to
with her mind.
Oh, but didn’t they tell you?
You can travel there too.
If you so choose.
About this poem
This is the first thing I’ve written to paper in 13 years. I wrote this for the people in the world who may not ever have been told prior to now about all the magic there is to be found within the bounded pages of a novel. I wanted them, I wanted you, to know, that you can choose to see the world despite any obstacle you think is preventing you to, if you so choose.
