Cranky Love…thanks Mom.

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

Dad was away on a sales trip
Dominion Rubber and tires.
Mom was filling in for both roles.
Often she did this.
And very well.
Something had led to a small
Argument.
Ten year old boy thought
He had some leverage.
To get a wee treat.
A childish acquisition.
Mom was the naysayer.
Until Son made his rueful boo boo.
Dad would allow this yaknow.
Yeah he would, and
I’m going to ask him
When I can.
Mom turned full frontal
From the dishwashing.
Don’t you ever, EVER
Pit me against Dad!
As if to divide us.
I TELL YOU sonny Boy.
I will pick him
Over you every time.
I mean it.

Never have forgotten that
Precious, cranky
Demonstration of Love.
Thanks, Mom.
You joined Him.
Up yonder, back in September.
You were ninety six.
Twelve years His widow.
(does Heaven have a nine hole
Golf Course? Or a Georgian Bay?
A Portuguese Algarve? Hawaiian flowers?)
