For My Mother Whom I Can't Touch

When I watch you
Through those crying eyes
Knowing I can't hold you
Or when I hear your voice
On the other end of the line
Knowing you are so near
Yet so far away
Or when I watch the endless hours go by
Wishing you were here
Knowing you can be
Yet wondering why you can't
I stand up
For much hope
I stand up

About this poem

I wrote this poem in 10th grade when my parents got divorced. My dad got sole custody of my brother and I and wouldn't allow us to see or talk to our mother so I wrote this for her.

We had the opposite in that mom would not allow us to see dad for years. Sad that children have to endure what parents create. This is a very touching poem, Rechelle. Thank you for sharing yourself.

    Rechelle,
For your mother whom you can’t touch physically, you’ve touched endearingly, along with others, with your heartfelt poetry. A therapeutic gift!

Such a sad poem to reflect a sad situation. A love between a daughter and a mother cannot be rerouted so easily.
