Echoes of Yesterday
The mirror's gleam, it calls to me,
Inviting to a garden grand,
Where memories in jars we see,
And time doth take me by the hand.
I cannot choose but to comply,
For secrets there may be unfurled,
Where joy and love did once abide,
And sadness was not in the world.
Where happiness was all around,
As if the clouds had all dispersed,
And time had stood without a sound,
Forever in that joyful verse.
But what if in a loop I'm caught,
Not far from where I'll be the most,
Where crepes I'll make while snow is brought,
And you'll run in, and hold me close.
So let the mirror take me there,
To future gardens, where we'll see,
A life of love, without a care,
In our forever sanctuary.
About this poem
The title "Echoes of Yesterday" evokes the idea of memories that linger and continue to be heard, much like echoes. It emphasizes the nostalgia and longing for the past, and the way it reverberates in the present. The poem is about the longing to return to a simpler time, where happiness was abundant and love was true. The speaker is caught in a loop, not far from that place where he'll be the happiest, and he longs for the reflection in the mirror to take him to the garden of the future, where he and his loved one will live in harmony in their sanctuary forever. The poem is a reminder that the beauty of life lies in the memories we create and the people we share it with. more »
