Up very early and dark morning with my wife.

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

Happens again.
Both wake up.
Not with a jolt
Or troubling dream.
But relaxedly
And in tandem.
Comes with over forty-eight
Years married.
Might not result
In lots of talking.
Just being close.
As a comfort
Outside each bed.
Night outside is blank.
Maybe a siren or two.
Whole world has stopped
But not we two.
Pleasant sensation.
Confidences undiminished
And comforts
Of marriage.
Defying description.
