If I Close My Eyes

If I close my eyes I can feel you
and if I close them tight enough these pillows next to me feel like the real you.
If I close my eyes I can go back to the nights when I was near you
and if I listen real hard I can hear you...
telling me you love me
place no one above me.
If I close my eyes I can fantasize
and if I keep them closed I won't realize that the love of my life isn't here...
and I am living one of my biggest fears.
So for now, keep my eyes closed is what I'll do...
since right now that's the only way I can be with you.
About this poem
I wrote this poem around 2006. The man I loved was sent to prison and I missed him terribly. It was an expression of my love for and the agony I was in at the time. I'm sure that those in similar situations and even those who a suffered other types of loss can relate to it.
