In the Beginning God

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Remain in Him and He’ll remain in you
This is the promise of Jesus
Remain in the word He has spoken to you
These words are not meant to deceive us

God in all of His power and might
Could have come here to enslave us
But humble and meek He came as a baby
God sent His Son here to save us

Save us from what you might be asking
As you’re sitting there counting your treasure
To save us from sin and the death that will follow
When you’re living here just for your pleasure

So how can a baby save us from this?
Well that baby grew into a man
Not considering Himself to be equal with God
He lived sinless and made His last stand

He stood on a cross with His arms opened wide
To pay for our sins and receive us
So, one day with Him in God we’ll abide
Our God has a name; His name is Jesus
