The lost soul

Charles Poling 1977 (Baltimore, Maryland)

The sky is blue, the grass is green,
There is nothing but air I breathe in between.

It's wasted space, and so am I,
I do believe it's time for me to die.

I feel so hopeless yet try so hard,
I don't know how I've managed this far.

I have given up, that is plain to see,
I've fallen upon my trembling knees.

I have learned there's nothing to fear,
My body is numb the end is near.

As I'm here about to sin,
Knowing in this life I shall not win.

I do know this is not the way,
But it's too hard to go on like this every day.

Life's too short to live with a frown,
Or always walking with my head held down.

I used to fight, but there is none left,
Now it's time to lay this body to rest.

So I'll say this with my last breath,
Love to you all, I wish you the best.
