Why did it happen?
I found love but it wasn't equal.
Why did it happen?
I stayed true when they didn't.
Why did it happen?
I gave up my family values to be with them.
Why did it happen?
I lost myself for love, or infatuation..who cares?
Why did it happen?
I let someone take all of me.
Why did it happen?
The courage to say f*ck this shit is what happened.
I deserve more than a mediocre love.
That's why it happened.
Live myself for me.
That's why it happened.
Fairytales are lovely and idealistic. But they set young people up for altruistic ideologies.
This is happening.
Life is better without a toxic love.
And that's why it happ⁴ened.

About this poem

This poem deals with my divorce and the grief that went with it. With coming to terms with it, I wrote down my feelings.
