The Day We Found Out

The doctor rounded the corner,
You were still coming out of the anesthesia,
My heart beat faster when I saw her,
She stood there,
With that look of pity,
Poker face, she had none,
I'm sorry, she spoke softly,
He does have cancer,
The tears began to form,
A lump in my throat developed,
She tried to speak to you,
But you were still groggy,
You'd ask me what happened later,
And I'd be the one to deliver the news,
Our lives flashed before me,
Its too soon,
More time we need,
Its not fair,
My heart broke,
Right there on the floor,
I held your hand,
As you began to understand,
This is the day our lives changed,
This is the day our world stopped,
This is the day,
We found out.
