Pretty Poison

Alyshya Gentry 1989 (Greenville, SC)

Pretty little poison,
More rotten than you know…
Pretty little poison,
Much more damaged than she shows..
She tries to find your ordinary,
Pick it to the bone….
You plant your pills,
Those delicious pills..
They poison her with love.
Such a sweet little pill,
She takes you every day…
Injects you further,
Deeper,
Drowning..
Addicted to your way…
Wrecklessly injecting you,
Praying for release…
She begs for more..
She’s sweating ,
Shaking,
In need of your embrace..
Pretty little poison,
Seeping through your veins…
You’re inflicted with obsession..
That pretty little poison..
It infiltrates your heart..
You’re poisoning each other..
Addicted to the rot,
Damaging each other..
But you’ll never survive apart..

About this poem

This poem is about how love can take over your mind, eventually becoming obsession… Much like how poison sickens your body, eventually killing you.
