Ava

As a clock strikes midnight, a young girl runs across sparkling snow.

A vast wind glibly lifts a strand of her gold hair as it mouths a matronymic.

Ava! It shouts at this blooming girl, who happily runs through the night.

Ava is giggling as a pup follows, playfully running in pursuit.

Again a clock chimes, announcing midnight's arrival.

A small laugh slips from Ava's throat as a naughty act goes unpunished.

A clock is still, not a sound to catch.

A girl and her pup watch, as a bright light burns down that family ranch.

And now only one sound occurs,
a group of horrifying shouts coming from within.
