Still that child
The days have come and gone
With only memories of my past
As my childhood seemed to fade away
And carefree days don’t seem to last
The wrinkles became more noticed
My hair turned grey to white
My eyes began to thin
No matter how hard I try to fight
Where’d that little boy run off to
He took off sooner than I planned
Not only forgot to tell me
But left me holding this old man’s hand
Like Peter Pan forever
Always running from my age
Not to age with all the others
Or turn that damned old page
Now don’t misunderstand me
Don’t think I’ve run off that damn fast
That child is still within me
The silly boy from time gone past
He’s still here but undercover
Just waiting till the time gets right
To show that little glimmer
To release that shinning light
No my young heart has not faded
Only harder to display
Now they call it quite peculiar
When I let him out to play
In my mind I’m young forever
Plan to let it stay that way
I’m a child in all his glory
Right up till my dying day
About this poem
As we grow older, we still have that child inside. I let mine out quite often. And plan to as long as I’m around. Hope you do too!
