iowa

state of comfort
state of bliss
state of grammy
state of no resist
my state
my home
the place i’ll love to the bone
i have no regrets
no reason to be scared
just here in my bed
no arms to be bared
going through the days
none the same as the other
and wondering why
i wasn’t born here
in this state of green color

now that i’m back
in the state i don’t call home
i miss it even more
than ive ever known
i wanna go home
never come to this place again
where my trauma was caused
where i didn’t have revenge
where my father is here
in this awful place
i hate it more than anything
it holds no grace
where my memories lie
good and bad
i’ll leave them here
even if it makes me sad
nothing would make me happier
if i wasn’t trapped
in this place everyone around me calls home
when i don’t even remember the street maps
