Hopeless Romantic

I woke up early just to make myself pretty
Hoping you would catch a glance and take a second look
Instead I was met by friends who made fun of my stripes and suggested a leopard could be better
I chose to be confident this morning, wearing my favorite clothes and putting on my smile
But now I’m home and looking at those pictures
Knowing I’m a hopeless romantic in denial
You always seem to have the most friends
You’re gifted with a beautiful smile
Your smarter than the rest but not enough to notice my interest in your time and how you go the extra mile
I want to stand by your side not in your shadow
Crying from the joy of your touch rather than tears staining my sheets
