An ADHD mind

Let me take you on a journey
Through the maze that is my head
Thoughts always racing
Some say I should be dead
Every days a battle
To get them to tow the line
I fight each day and tell myself
That’s things will be just fine
Empty, alone and worthless
Are the feelings that I feel
Never really knowing
If a friendships really real
I’m rarely understood
Yet they call me one of a kind
If only they knew the real me
And the struggles in my mind
I mask my problems daily
I do it very well
I take them to that head of mine
Where no one else can tell
The thoughts turn into anger
The longer i stay there
I push away those close to me
It really isn’t fair
While each day may be a struggle
There is good in what I see
No one can change this life of mine
That ones up to me
I have a gift of dreaming
I’ll use it where I can
My brain remains young at heart
I feel like Peter Pan
Although I may be different
And have a racing mind
I also come with lots of love
and a promise to be kind
I go out my way for others
It’s the little things I do
I sense when someone’s feeling down
And I’m always there for you
My life may be a struggle
But it’s a battle I will win
For I’ve got to see the positives
And it not to be a sin
I know that I will beat this
It’s the only thing to do
I open up my arms and hope the journey is with you.
I’m open and im honest
About my ADD
I just hope that you’re patient
And walk this road with me

About this poem

I am going through the process of being diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 37 and have turned to writing as a way to let off some of the thoughts I have each day. This poem sums up a lot of what neurodivergent individuals face each day and I hope it may help those struggling.
