Alone is Not Lonely

Alone, Not Lonely

Alone is a song, slightly off-key
Lonely is wishing, but having nobody
Alone is a bird, sitting on a fence
Lonely is feelings, that don’t make sense
Alone is a place, where you go to be
Lonely is something that can steal your free
Alone is a highway without any cars
Lonely is a night without any stars
Alone can be wondrous, soul giving
Lonely can be hazardous, almost soul killing
Alone is a face without any shame
Lonely is painful, sometimes with no name
Alone is possible, even acceptable
Lonely is saddened, feeling unfixable
Alone is yourself, inside your dream
Lonely is terrified, outside the place
Alone is a light in a darkened room
Lonely the others who have no face
Alone is not lonely.

About this poem

I wrote this when I was struggling through some mental health issues, and had been feeling isolated. It was a reminder to myself that being alone doesn't always need to be a bad thing.
