A Rotten Tooth

When I met you
You were like sugar in my mouth
Melted gently in my tongue
Rushed around my body
Swore yourself to me like and oath

What I didn't know is you nestled in my tooth and made a home
A wicked smile was planted that I never saw
The sugar still sweet
My very first treat

Then I saw a glimpse
A glimpse of that tooth you nestled in so deep
After weeks I realised you were decayed
Still, I kept eating the delight I though was mine

Yet I lied
I was in your control
My tooth now breaking like my crumbled heart
Realisation of my treat going far
The rotting stench of the corpse I call myself

The sugar in my mouth
The taste I can't get rid
Even though you rotted me to the core
That sweet treat I desire more and more

About this poem

Falling in love with someone who is sweet, but then becomes toxic. Even when the relationship is over, you still desire that sweet affection you once had
