A Daughters Prayer

On a cold winter night, I said good-bye
holding your hand, Praying for your return
but a request the will never be heard.

Memories filled and laughter arose,
for I will remember you in that way forever
you've known me for what remained of your life
and now I have to remember you for the rest of mine.

The sound of your voice, ever so sweet and strong like thunder
your lingering smell will soon begin to fade
because on a cold winter night, to you I said good-bye

for the promise of reuniting comforts the pain
I prayed for you to stay, but yet you still slipped so far way
no longer will I find shelter from the storm in your arms
for on a cold winter night, to you I had to say good-bye
