My Mind

Darryn Scott 1972 (Adelaide)

My mind, it seems to always be switched on,
Whether the thoughts are, what you call right or wrong.
It just never seems to turn off,
And at times it really makes me cross.

When you are always on there is no rest,
Making it hard to be at your best.
Working hard on all that is needed,
And sometimes feeling impeded.

Trying to focus on what is at hand,
Tangled thoughts I can’t understand.
Frustration growing at every point,
Makes me want to just smoke a joint.

Quieten it down, numb it cold,
This restless mind is getting old.
Sick of the relentless chatter,
Hard to fit in the things that matter.

Silence sometimes would be nice,
Just some calm without needing a vice.
Would bring some solace to this busyness,
Which seems, at times, to be relentless.

Shut it down and give me a break,
I’ve had about as much as I can take.
Turn it off, it doesn’t need to be this way,
It never listens to what I say.

All I can do is keep pushing on,
Do things that keep me mentally strong.
Trust that I will always get through,
This, mind, I say to you.

We are in this together, don’t ever forget,
The answers I chose, you will get.
So, throw whatever you can at me,
Not sure what will happen, we will see.
