Little Hand

Shepherds see the little Hand
Cousin holds their sheep
Quiet down to Bethlehem
Others all asleep.
Angels spoke of Manger Joy
Pretty Mother heard
Cooing of the rafter doves
Welcomes from the birds.
Welcomes from the livestock too
They no danger sense
Little Hand just lordly, small
Humans’ joy immense.
Shepherds now have found the spot
Fitting so it seems
Lowly, see the Babe foretold.
Answer to their dreams.
Spoken in the prophets’ writ
Strange such freedom come
Youth accompanying
Heightens it
Playing on his Drum.

Traditionally we read Luke chapter two.
