Clydesdales

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

The Clydes are there

Out Hopewell Road

Their feathered hooves

Haul heavy loads.

Their thickening coats

To challenge cold.

And time congealed with them.

We love the drive

The view so pure

And meekness strong

In them endures.

A shed for cover

A bin for food

And master’s visits

With love endued.

We see their power

And gentle pace.

The meekest of

The Equine Race.

Small ducks afoot

Near feathered hooves

Crushing power

But benign proves

One big pulsing heart.

Benevolent.

Clydesdale. Aye Laddie.

About this poem

have taken many rides out of Kitchener enjoying the openness and freshness of Hopewll Road near Breslau...and the Clydesdales in their paddock.
