WHISPERS

Ken Bartlett 1934 (Leominsterr Mass)

She entered the room hunched and stared at the floor.
Without turning her head gazed side to side toward the door.

Her wry smile said she knew it.  Still, at it, they shun it.
Tongues wagging wildly, eyes rolling with accusation.

No person would speak to her. No one would dare.
Just whisper and snicker, no empathy or care.

What was it she thought, what had she said or done?
What had been so nefarious that it offended everyone?
