The Phase

Cosmic dust 2005 (Uttar pradesh, meerut)

Ode

I was just a teen enjoying the realm of life,
When all of a sudden I had to go through one of those nights,
Where I had to flip the sheets almost every second,
In the sheer fear of getting them reckoned.

Yes it was true, I was no more just a teen
And it was time to pave my way through all the myths
Including,
Not touching green,
Labelled as not being clean.

Now was the time to get rid of this dearth,
So I set my foot to move heaven and Earth.

To bust all the hurdles that lined up my way,
To accept my body and embrace it everyday.

I grew up from a teen to a matured woman,
And as I look back, I feel proud to be able to not just walk but run through that track.

About this poem

'THE PHASE' My art work focuses on the harsh truth that women in indian society have to fight their way through during their menstruation cycle. It deals with some basic myths that we all must have heard at least once when we were young,it voices the fear that an adolescence faces when she gets her first period and how traumatic that experience can be if she has to bear all the myths that are still prevailing in our society.
