Nebraska
His black eyes tried to see me,
With artificial English words,
He never shared the secret thoughts,
And was not as cosmopolitan as first perceived.
His secret life hid away, his coldness now
understandable, I watched him walk away.
He thought himself a city man
But down deep, where his conscience lay buried
And his soul cast aside,
He was nothing but a boy from Nebraska
