LONG GATHERING OF PEACE

We've gone out Into the forest
In long gathering of peace
Like a woman in long gathering of woods
For the fire in homestead barely warm our palms

Our bare feet lost its moisture in the dust,
Ten thousands thorns found host under our feet
With empty bellies like a river who lost its source
We   sort rest for our waist to ease our stress
Neath our tongues we seek for the words of comfort

The long gathering of peace grew weak,
Chaos kindled the lamb of forgotten terrors
then we return  home to make the fire of peace,
Butt the  wind of bitterness grew strong upon our trees
And shame grew cold on our knees

We collapsed into the shadow of the night
 our souls began yearning
For the gentle face of the moon,
For the glory of sunshine
And for the harvest of peace.

About this poem

This poem is about our yearnings in Nigeria for the warmth of peace in our beds once again. This longing made us to set out in search of peace in far away lands. But biterness became a strong wind that queched the fire of peace in our homestead and rekindled the lamb of forgotten terror. Then our souls hope for the harvest of peace through the night.
