I do believe

Dennis R Monroe, jr 1966 (San Bernardino, CA)

I do believe the Lord above
Created you for me to love.
He picked you out from all the rest,
because he knew I'd love you best.
I had a heart and it was true.
But now it's gone from me to you.
So care for it as I have done,
for you have two and I have none.
When this life is over and I've been called home.
Away from this earth never more to roam.
Inside the Pearly Gate, at the top of the Golden Stair, with the other angels I will wait for you there.
If you're not there on judgement day,
I'll know you've gone the other way.
So I'll give back my angel wings, golden crown,
and other things; and to prove to you my love is true.... I would even go through Hell, just to be with you

Dennis R Monroe, jr

I wrote this poem while still in school; always believed in fairy tale wishes, happily ever afters,, and dreams that do come true. That wasn't the begining, nor is this the end, just part of the story about the struggle of my heart against the wind. Life for me has turned out to be everything I always wanted it to be. Thank you Christina for helping to create that with me. more…

I'm sorry to inform you of this, but Dennis R Monroe Jr is NOT the author of this poem. By the way, this is ALMOST written correctly but with a few exceptions in wording. A couple of lines are close but incorrect.
I wrote this, about 1950, possibly before he was even born. My brother Frank was a dirt-track race-car driver and sometimes I used to go with him . We lived in northern Illinois and often he raced in Wisconsin.
At one of those races I met a girl, Rosie Meiers, and I wrote this about her, believing I would never see her again.
Seven or eight years later I went into the Navy and was in school in San Diego, California and I passed this around to many of the guys who wanted something to send home to their girlfriends.
The rest is history. Frankie Laine, a well know singer at that time, recorded this as a song, as did Don Ho, a Hawaian singer as well. Yes, it was passed around during the 1960's but I repeat, it was NOT written by this person who claims it.
Also, November 6th, 1977, I survived a Dam Break at Toccoa Falls Bible College, ( see Dam Break in Georgia and Valley of Death) in which I lost thousands of poems and short-stories which may have been recovered at some later date.
Even today, I write books and poetry. I am published and available at AMAZON, several books of poetry, some biographies, as well as novels.
Please check me out to verify what I have written.

    Your truly
    R Douglas Veer
