Dark Poem

Tanya Anderson 1975 (Sheridan, Wyoming)

Scratching, grasping, crawling inside my head
I watch as black clawed, blood-covered fingers reach for me
Ripping and tearing into my soft flesh
Screaming in pain and anguish as I struggle to get free.

Consumed by darkness with only a fleeting glimmer of light
I feel myself sinking down the never-ending empty hole
My spirit starts to fade as it slips through my fingers
Holding tightly to the fringed threads of my soul.

Dark fog embraces me with arms so tight I heave for breath
Slithering deep inside my lungs like a three headed snake
Panic overwhelms me as my breathing starts to double
Sobs rack my body as I wonder how much more I can take.

Shivers crawl up my spine as malevolent laughter immerses around me
Despair seeps deep within my being as realization strikes home
There is no way out, no where to run, nowhere to hide
No one will save me from the demon within, I am utterly alone.
