Sleep II

I want to sleep with you, love.
I don’t mean to have sex.
I mean sleep, with you in my bed,
beneath the covers with the window
cracked ever so slightly,
just so the room is chilly and you
have to move even closer to me.
I want your head on my chest and
your legs wrapped around my own
like rogue vines that won’t let go.
I want you so close, I can smell your
jasmine perfume and see your eyes
crystal clear in the moonlight.
I want you so close I can feel your heart
beating against mine, the two jagged rhythms
like drums out of sync.
I want to sleep with you in total silence,
so I can hear the gentleness of your breath,
in contrast to your voice, so light it
sounds of tinkling bells.
I want you in sleepy, blissful silence.
