As I lay me down to sleep

As I lay me down to sleep My mind wanders into the deep Heavy mind and a heavy soul This life of mine wants to unfold The whispers get louder and my heart grows somber My mind knows better though to sit and ponder I often wonder what others feel Do they know this pain as real When I smile, do my lips quiver Why when I’m happy does my soul shiver Can’t I just be the me that I strive Or must the sadness stay till I die As I lay me down to sleep I remind myself of the life I beat As my mind attempts to sadden the heart I pray to the Lord that I don’t fall apart As I battle the world, my anxieties and fears I pray to the Lord to wipe away my tears I close my eyes, and a new day awakes Filled with joy and love and of course new mistakes As nighttime comes my mouth doesn’t say a peep The whispers get louder As I lay me down to sleep…
