The Last Rain

Ever since I was a child I loved the rain. I used to hear the pitter-patter of raindrops falling against the window, the booming sound of thunder and feel raindrops on my skin that reach somewhere deep within, making my body alive. The black and dark clouds I was looking at resembled my thoughts, and together with the sky, plants and trees make the environment even more beautiful. I often saw some kids splash in the puddles or make beautiful paper boats which float in the rainwater, wishing that I could be like those kids. I love to smell the pleasant, dewy earthy smell of the post-rain afternoon, which always soothes my soul.

As always, I was enjoying the rain when I felt an excruciating pain throughout my whole body and then I don't know what happened, but when I was in pain all of a sudden I was not able to smell the earthy scent which I enjoyed so much or the constant foul smells surrounding me that I loathe. Then I felt something warm like water droplets falling on my cold hands .at first, I thought it was rain, but then how can raindrops feel warm these raindrops didn't give me peace and happiness like before but made me more miserable as if something precious to me was hurting or was being taken away. I was also not able to feel anything, not even a little bit of pain or that warmth which I felt before. I tried very hard to look around but all I could see was that I was in a room which was becoming darker with every passing second, which I think was because of the dark clouds which were getting darker. Suddenly it turned all black. Now all I could hear was the sound of raindrops, thunder and some people. I was not able to make out what the people were saying as I was too focused on listening to my favourite sound in the whole world, that is the rain, but then everything went mute. Before everything was muted, I heard a man's voice telling the other people present in the room that he tried very hard to save their daughter but he was not able to and that he was sorry for their losses. That was the last thing that I sensed before falling into a black void. I felt like there is nothing here. It’s even nothing. No light, no dark, no existence, no non-existence. It’s a paradox that I am not able to understand.

It is said that the sun will reappear after the rain in the same way; there will always be joy after every pain in life. Just like how twenty years ended after so much pain, seeking salvation in a stellar rebirth.
